Everyone can benefit from make-up. It can brighten your skin, open your eyes and give you a polished look. Make-up doesn’t have to be a mystery. With a few simple guidelines, you can get the look that’s right for you. How do I choose the right products? How can I determine what colors are right for me? How is it applied properly? Overcoming theses obstacles can be simple with these simple tips and I even found a great video from Carmindy, of TLC’s What Not To Wear show, with application tips for you as well. Enjoy!

Great Make-Up Starts With Great Skin: Maintaining your skin is the number one priority when trying to get the perfect look with your make-up. Find a regimen that works for you and be consistent with it to create the perfect canvas. Make sure to exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells that can dull the skin’s appearance. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and take your vitamins!

Prep With A Primer: Primer is used to even out the skin before applying your foundation. Many of these products have antioxidants and other great ingredients that help benefit your skin as well. Apply a small amount all over your face to smooth and fill in fine lines. You will notice a differnce in the way your foundation goes on. Click here to read more on Primer.

Less Is More: As we age, our skin becomes drier and fine lines and wrinkles are more apparent.  Applying make-up can accentuate these lines and make us look older. Powder tends to settle in the creases so use it sparingly or switch to a cream or liquid foundation. Remember, you want to create a hydrated look not a dried out look.

Set your Make-Up: To complete your look, use a translucent powder to set your make-up but try to limit it only on the T-Zone to keep your cheeks looking dewy and beautiful.

Choosing the Foundation Shade That’s Right For You: Finding a shade that works for you is tough! I like to test colors on my jawline, chest or neck when choosing a foundation. Chances are you are shopping with make-up on your face so make sure to test on an area that is clean of cosmetics. This will help give you a better idea of what shade works for you.

Concealor: Concealor is used for just that. To conceal blemishes, redness and brighten eyes. I have two concealors; one for blemishes and one to brighten my eyes. When choosing a blemish concealor, make sure that it is almost the same shade as your foundation. If it is lighter, it will highlight your blemishes rather than conceal them. To brighten the eyes, dab underneath the eyes and in the corners of the eyes near the nose to open the eyes. This concealor should be just a shade lighter than your foundation and have a pink undertone to it.

I found this video from Carmindy helpful for application tips. I have not tried her products but her tips are great.  Carmindy Make-Up Application Video
