I will be the first to admit it. I am a cleaning HATER. I love having a clean, organized space but hate having to use strong chemicals to get the shine that I expect from all of my hard work. I have tried numerous harsh products and a handful of green products with mixed results that I wasn’t sold on. I recently found some incredible brands that make my tile, porcelain and grout shine like I have never seen it shine before and quite frankly, I LOVE IT. It didn’t choke me or kill me in the process. Matter of fact, I enjoyed the fresh clean scents and for the first time in my life, looked forward to cleaning again. WHAT?!
Last weekend, I made the complete switch over to non-toxic products and was AMAZED with the results! We live in an old apartment and I have never seen the tile shine like this. I’m hooked! I was able to find these at my local Target but also added the links to the company websites for you. The price points are slightly higher but trust me, it is worth every penny. For those of you with children or husbands who make sandwiches on the counter top, consider what is touching their bread. Are you sure that you didn’t miss a spot when you wiped away the harsh chemicals on the counter last time you cleaned? Are they ingesting chemicals? Think about that. YUCK!
Here is what I used and this is what I am loving!
Number One Pick: Bon Ami Powder Cleanser (pictured above)
Why? It removed deep lime build up and stains that could not be removed previously by CLR, bleach or Comet. I can’t even express how bright and white my tub is right now.
Why? I use this for everything. It is easy on the nose, cuts through stove top grease and is ammonia-free. The scent is light and bright commanding For those of you who know about my obsession with pork, know how often I fry bacon, pancetta and pork chops on the stove top.
This San Francisco company produces non-toxic, plant-based surface cleaners, hand soaps and detergents. I made the switch over to quite a few of their products including their hand soaps and find that my hands aren’t nearly as chapped as they were when I was using soaps laden with sulfates. I like their hibiscus flower or clementine scents for the kitchen, sea minerals for the bathroom and current for the holidays. If you are buying Bath & Body Works, make the switch. The price point is about the same if not less and it is far better for your skin.
Why? If you want your bathroom to smell like a spa, this is your new favorite product. This can be used on almost everything and has an invigorating scent that is clean and refreshing. It did leave a few streaks behind.
Why? I have been using this product for months and I love the smell and the shine it leaves on my cheap kitchen floor. It is great for tile too!
Why? Do you know why I love this? Two reasons- One, they get get their scents from fields, not factories. There is nothing manufactured about these scents. They are naturally sourced from fields. (Don’t forget to enter their sweepstakes for a chance to win below!) Secondly, this soap doesn’t stick to your hands or your sink like other dish soaps. Do a test. Squirt one line of this soap and a major brand soap side by side and pour water over them until they go away. This thoroughly cleans without having to use a ton of water to rinse it off.

Room Fresheners and Candles: Forget using toxic sprays on your clothing and furniture. You continue to breathe in those chemicals long after they were sprayed. I found two great room fresheners that I use on everything. Plus, the Heliotrope sprays can be used on your skin as well.
Candles can give off toxins as they burn. Make sure that you choose all-natural candles such as the Soy & Shea Butter Massage Candle from Heliotrope. This one can be doubled as warm massage oil as it burns. Love Heliotrope! My favorite scent? Black Fig & Cardamom.
