I am no stranger to the entrepreneurial dream. At the age of six, I had an entire business plan on how to become Madonna (don’t judge). The fame, the music, the dancing and lavish lifestyle was only a perk compared to the fashion. Quite frankly, I only wanted her clothes. The lace, the pearls, the red dress, the contrast of black or white to mirror her personalities. I wanted it all and I was determined to have it until I realized that I couldn’t sing. Singing was a key component to the success of this dream, right? After all, that is how she had acquired all of these beautiful garments.
Now imagine if someone came along and told me they would not only teach me to sing but guide me through the record deal to ensure my success. Needless to say, I’d be Madonna right now.
Last night I attend the launch of Keiretsu Forum’s first Ahead of the Fashion (AF) event in the heart of San Francisco. It was my pleasure to be a guest of one of their accomplished panelists and witness the industry’s up-and-coming fashion and tech businesses as they presented to the panel in hopes of future funding.
The honorable Willie Brown opened the forum with an inspirational speech about the uniqueness of this city and how it is the perfect place to marry fashion with technology. We are in the mecca of cutting edge technology and host one of the finest fashion schools in the country. Yet for some reason this city isn’t as recognized as it should be for it’s unique style sense. Well folks, that is all about to change thanks to Keiretsu Forum.
AF is an accelerating growth program for early stage technology ventures in the consumer, retail, and fashion industries. Each month, startups present to a panel of Keiretsu Forum angel investor members and industry experts. The events feature fashion shows with two fashion designers and a guest speaker to share insights into industry trends and growth opportunities. The top presenters from each event will be invited to participate in the first class of the AF accelerator in June 2012.
As you can see, this organization is right up my alley. My goal is to help you grow by providing you with the resources and power you need to succeed. And that is exactly what AF is doing for entrepreneurs all over the world. Their goal is the same just on a larger, well funded scale. When you are one penny in the piggy bank of hundreds you feel small but together you make dreams happen. This is AF. Look out Madonna.
